Cosmetic tattooing is also known as permanent makeup. The process consists of unique pigments being implanted into the area to create a more permanent makeup look. There are many benefits to cosmetic tattooing. It is time-saving, creates symmetry, and if you have a medical condition that makes it challenging to apply makeup, you do not need to worry about it with cosmetic tattooing. The client base is predominantly women, but many men are now benefiting from cosmetic tattoos.
Microblading
The most well-known makeup tattoo is microblading (hair stroke brows); this enhances the look of your eyebrows by replicating the natural appearance of feathered eyebrow hairs. Microblading does not use an electric tool like other tattooing. Artists use a handheld tool with 10-12 microneedles and manually create papercut-like incisions into the skin. The incisions are then filled with pigment to create your new and improved eyebrows.
Powder Brows
Unlike microblading, powder brows do not tattoo hair-like strokes. Often referred to as the ‘Shadow effect or ombre brows,’ an electric tool with a microneedle attached is used to create pin-like dots of pigment to achieve a powdered eyebrow look. Experts say this technique is better for oily or sensitive skin.
Combo brows
As mentioned in the name, this is a combination of microblading and powder brows. Hair strokes are placed with a manual tool around the outskirts of the brow to give a natural look. Then the shading is applied to the body of the brow using an electric machine to give the fullness of the brow.
Permanent eyeliner
Eyeliner is a popular makeup type used to enhance the eyes. An eyeliner makeup tattoo is where pigment is implanted into the skin with an electric cosmetic tattoo machine. The most common eyeliner look for makeup tattoos is the tight line; this is where the pigment is implanted between the layers of your eyelashes to darken your lash line, t’s a thinner natural look that subtly enhances your lashes. Then there is the eyeliner look; this is a step above the lash line that gives you the look of liquid liner. You can get it as thick or thin as you like, but the artist will consider your facial features to determine the correct size and shape for you.
Lip Blush
There are between 800 and 900 million lipsticks sold every year globally, and that isn’t even considering lip gloss! Lip blush is where pigment is implanted into the lips using an electric cosmetic tattoo machine. The pigment colour will be chosen between you and the artist but is usually a natural but brighter colour than your natural lip colour. Lip blush is good for improving the shape of the lips and creating symmetry. It can give your lips the illusion of fullness without getting lip fillers, or lip blush can complement lip fillers perfectly.
